What changed when the Student Direct Stream (SDS) ended?

Canada ended the Student Direct Stream on November 8, 2024. New study-permit applications are assessed through the regular process.

A GIC may still be part of financial evidence, but it no longer provides access to an SDS process or guaranteed faster processing.

Use the current official instructions from IRCC, the destination school and, where relevant, the province or territory. Requirements can change and depend on individual circumstances.
